Caring is sharing and what better way show you care than to share some homemade Christmas goodies. Most traditional baked goodie boxes have a few things in common, first being they are homemade baked goods, second, they are filled with indulgent treats that you can’t resist. Cookies, holiday fudge, bark, and truffles are just a few sweet treats most boxes contain.
Have you ever received a homemade sweet treat box filled with cookies, holiday fudge, bark, and truffles? They truly are the best, aren’t they?
It’s funny how times change so quickly. I mean I am only in my early 30’s and feel like the world has turned a complete 180 degrees. Some changes are for the best, others, well, are making us more paranoid and an overly sensitive society.
One change I don’t like is how we lost the neighborly love. Back in the good old days when I was a little girl, I remember being in the kitchen with my mother, grandmother, or whoever was old enough to help me in the kitchen. Around the holidays we would spend hours baking, laughing, dancing and of course making a mess.
Do you think we would keep what we made in those hours’ worth of baking labor? Nope! We would pack them up in little packages, give them to our neighbors, friends, teachers, and would even bring a large platter to church. I even think once we had so much we made one for the mailman and delivery guys.
The smiles on their faces, just for a moment their eyes would light up like a kid on Christmas morning. Those simple gestures were enough of a thank you to warm your heart without words or actions.
The good old days!! Where did they go?
Now we all seem to be so busy. Work, school, extracurriculars, sports…. I could keep listing, but we would be here all day. But! Funny enough we can’t seem to look up from our phones. (Hey, not judging I am just as guilty as the rest of you)
So, with all that being said I urge you this holiday season for 2 hours 1 day go unplugged. No computers, no tablets, no phones, not even the television. Turn up those Christmas tunes, dance your heart out, laugh until you get a belly ache, and make a little mess. Maybe even make someone a little goodie box. And always make sure you leave some for yourself just to sample.
To help you with this we have compiled a list of Santa Claus’s Favorite Cookies a list of about 80 cookie recipes, and check out the list below for holiday fudge, bark, and truffles.
