Another month, a few more pages written. I hope your pages are full of memories, struggles, and successes. Here is a peek at what’s been going on behind the scenes in my life along with my January Top 10 Healthy Meal Choices.
What a year 2017 was. I wish I could say that I am looking forward to 2018 but honestly it scares me. First off having a president that is quite ignorant, and could care less, to the care in which special needs kids need to thrive and become active members of this society is worrisome enough.
Last year Jane made such great strides, she is now social, going to parties, participating in school and classroom events, she even wants to plan play dates on days off. I haven’t been punched, kicked, smacked or called a bitch for 6 months. All my furniture, mirrors, and toys are in tacked I haven’t had to replace anything all year!! This is all thanks to ABA (applied behavior analysis) Therapy.
Through decades of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed many techniques for increasing useful behaviors and reducing those that may cause harm or interfere with learning. So, her confidence is up along with her test scores, but honestly, if our insurance (private pay) stops covering her therapy we will have to discontinue care. Now don’t get me wrong she still has Autistic meltdowns which can be frustrating, but things are better now than they have ever been.
Then there is the wind industry and the fact that they will possibly lose government funding, which will lead to many layoffs. This has my husband’s bosses pacing back and forth worried, which makes him worried, which makes me worried. We are all just a big bowl of worry lol
But!! We are blessed we have a roof over our head, good food in our bellies, and lots of love!!
Yes, folks, this is going to be a year of unexpected changes, which is scary and does make us worry. But!! What I can take out of 2017 (after Jane’s diagnosis, followed by losing my job, all that on top of dealing with an absent husband, not by choice but due to his work schedule, and a newborn) is we will get through it. We will grow from it, we will learn from it, we will be stronger thanks to it, and most of all we will be more ourselves than we ever have been. It’s funny how the toughest times in life show the most truth.
Yeah, I know I started off this post on a negative note… big no-no in the writer’s world. But!! I need to keep in honest and real because that is what I promised 2 years ago when I started this little blog in my very own corner of the internet.
At least once a month I will be writing a post like this, January Top 10 Healthy Meal Choices along with a monthly recap, just my whisking thoughts, rambling around in my brain, keeping me up late at night. So, you can get to know me a little bit more. But don’t think I will leave you recipe-less, no, heaven forbid I do that. At the end of each one of these posts will be my picks of the month’s healthy meal recipes. There will also be a recap of what you may have missed this month.
