Well, I must say the past few months have been mentally challenging. I just want to scream. Not out of anger but out of frustration. The #1 cause for this frustration is the US School System when it comes to high functioning autistic kids.
Here is a fact that many people don’t know when they have “normal” children and don’t deal with an IEP. There is such a thing as not autistic enough in the school system. Yeah, I know right!
My beautiful bright little girl got diagnosed shortly after her 5th birthday from a private psychologist at a mental health facility. This was after months of erratic behavior and me fighting with her Dr.’s to get her evaluated. It was a month-long process and was shocked when we got her diagnosis but also relieved because I was not the crappy parent that I was being accused of being.
After her diagnosis, you can say I took a long swim in my own ignorance. You would think that once I started to except things and changes that my ignorance would have faded but instead it slapped me in my face time and time again. The biggest slap was the day the school evaluated her.
I thought okay good evaluate her so they can educate her the best way possible. However, that is not just want they did. They said that even though she was diagnosed autistic they don’t see it
So, when my daughter has a rough day they question why. When she struggles to understand something, they question why. When she gets over stimulated or things are out of routine and she want to run and hide under a desk they question why.
They say she is not autistic enough for it to affect her education… isn’t that something.
Well, yeah, my thoughts haven’t been the most positive this month, but I am human, and it is what it is. Now on with February’s recap!

Lit List: I am learning to embrace the joys of reading again. I guess over the years between jobs, kids and being a wife I forgot to make time for the things I enjoy. So having a monthly lit list on here not only allows me to share some great books with you guys it also hold me accountable to take some time for me.
Coming up this month is the first list of Must-haves list. These are my seasonal list for things that will help you make quick delicious meals year round. Plus I added something my friends have been asking me for years. A few tips and tricks to making your house guest ready all day everyday.
The Ads: We are still working out the glitches to avoid the spammy appearance of ads. Ads are great as long as they aren’t coming out of every knock and cranny.
Taxes: The actually got done before April!
Created a new Budget: Sat down and evaluated our time and spending then re created a budget that is tailored to our needs.
School: Online schooling is going smoother. But Jane still longs to be around kids so we have been taking more trips to town and we meet a neighbor. By that, I mean the person that lives a mile (literally) up the road.
Potty Training: Let’s not even talk about that…
Self Care and Down Time: Learning how to take time to unwind sounds a lot easier then what it really is. But bubble baths and stress relieving tea may replace lap top and wine once a week.
Plus some for holiday shares from the food blogging world!
