Now if you know me you know I am not a huge believer in the modern “self-care” believes. I am a little old school and believe my family comes first and always will. If I need some me time, then I will get up early or stay up late. If I want to do a face mask and do my nails I do them with my daughter and sometimes my son.
However, there is one thing I do for myself every night and that is read a good book. I am fortunate because my love for reading has spread to my kid as well. Here are just a few we have enjoyed this month.
A book loaned to me by my sister. This book I could not put down. It draws you in and has you questioning things every step of the way. The first book in a growing series by Dot Hutchison. Plus the ending has a little twist you will never see coming!
Brought to you by the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Elizabeth Gilbert pours her soul and tells you the truth about being true to yourself as a person and as a writer. If you enjoy books like You’re a Badass you will love this book.
A story about trauma and the sick twisted love of sisterhood. Mental health is a struggle for many and this fictional story brings the challenges to a new family twisted level I never thought possible, yet it could really happen. Another one I couldn’t put down, because I had to know what crazy thing was going to happen next.
This is one of those books that I forgot about as an adult. Then I had kids and when I read it to them carries so much meaning. If you are a Dr. Suss fan you know this book. If you have kids it is a must have for any home library. It’s the book I read when they are upset and the day’s things are not going so well, a book to remind them that life is worth living.
Series Pick: Eerie Elementary
Thank you to the lovely librarian at Ben Franklin Elementary School in Wichita Falls TX for recommending such a fun series. If you have a child that is ready to read a chapter book this series is a must-have. Funny and intriguing. Plus, still has illustrations to keep the kids entertained. It’s about a hall monitor that has to save all the kids in the school from the living breathing school in crazy hilarious battles.
Entertainment: The Skunk
What would you do if a skunk followed you? What would you do if it just stopped out of the blue? Would you miss it? This is just one of the many cute stories we read at bedtime.
Bedtime Story Collection: 5-Minute Disney Pixar Stories
Everything Disney and Pixar in fun short bedtime stories. If you like Mickey and Monsters Inc you are going to love this book. Plus it gets your kids to bed just a little faster if they know you are reading a story about their favorite characters.
So what do you have on your nightstand? What book’s are you looking forward to reading this year? Any books your kids are enjoying? Let me know I would love to add to my collection!
Until next time,
