Do you ever long for a good old fashioned grandmother, cooked all day, type of meal? Thanks to modern technology we are able to achieve that during our busy work weeks thanks to slow cookers and instant pots.
What is the difference between an Instant Pot and a Slow Cooker?
What is a Slow Cooker
A slow cooker or crock pot is a simple kitchen gadget. You prep you dish according to recipe place it in the slow cooker, set the timer, the temp (high or low), and you just let it cook.
When it is done most of the updated ones turns the temp to just warm to keep your food nice and hot for when you are ready to eat. However, make sure yours has this feature. If you are a “This is Us,” fan you know the damage one can do if it does not have this feature and is left on.
If you are not a fan of or just have never seen the show what can happen is, it can get really hot, and it can start a fire.
This is why it is important not to leave any appliance unattended there is always this chance so make sure you read the manual for your slow cookers/crock pots to see what they recommend.
What is an Instant Pot
An Instant Pot is similar to a slow cooker however it is a slow cooker on steroids. It can be used as a slow cooker, you have to keep the valve open and set the time and the temp but it does the trick under the right setting.
However it is also a pressure cooker. Most models come with settings to cook dry beans, soups, rice, meats stews, porridge, multigrain, and the ability to steam. The lasts models even have a yogurt feature.
With the ability to cook like a pressure cooker it means you can cook a roast in a little over an hour and have it taste and fall apart like it cooked all day in a slow cooker.
This feature is the reason I love my Instant Pot. I don’t have to worry about it like a slow cooker. It is not on when I am out of the house, so my paranoia about a fire starting is at ease. Yet, I can serve up meals for my family like they have been slow cooking all day.
Plus, I never have to worry about burning rice and it takes minutes using regular rice, brown rice, and even rice pilaf! AMAZING!!
So, what more do you need to know before trying out any of these fantastic minimal effort meals? How about the Instant Pot meal recipes and the Slow Cooker meal recipes themselves?
