Social media is going crazy these days with the battle of the masks. Most states have issued protocols and laws stating that we the people must wear masks when we are out in public. Whether it be going to the grocery store, back to school shopping, or even out walking the dog masks NEED to be worn. So, what is the big deal? Let us break it down.
The People Against Wearing Masks
When we talk about the people against wearing masks. These people fall into 3 categories, the conspiracy theorist, the masks are lethal weapons that kill people, and the people that believe being told to wear a mask infringes on their legal rights.
The conspiracy theorist believes there is no need to wear a mask because this whole this is a hoax set forth by the government to scare the people into submission. Yes, there is a lot to be scared about when it comes to a pandemic… it is a pandemic for crying out loud. People are dropping like flies and the world has not seen this much death since World War II and the 1918 Spanish Flu.
So, honestly, if this is just a big conspiracy created by the government to scare the people something went terribly wrong.
The conspiracy theorist does not wear masks because it is a hoax. The only way to really fight this whole thought of the government scaring the people into submission is to not be scared. Yes, it is a pandemic, however, what can we do about it… nothing… except curve the peak and stop spreading our germs, which in turn caused less death and less panic.
The people that believe masks are lethal weapons that kill people. Now this one is too funny. I have never heard of a person, doctor, nurse, dental assistant, dentist, or really anyone else that wears masks day after day for work falling over and dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. Never….
But! Let us play along, shall we? I get it, it is uncomfortable to wear a mask when walking your dog, or at a bar that is overcrowded with people, dancing at a wedding, or riding a bull at the rodeo. Plus not all people that wear masks to work are in controlled environments and are comfortable wearing them.
Do you really think these doctors and dentists that volunteer their time to work in 3rd world countries have a fancy building they work in? More often than not they work in huts or medical tents with no AC units or fans. Just a space that they can keep as clean as possible to work on the patients, in 100+ degree weather.
Again no one has ever died of carbon monoxide poisoning wearing a mask… no one has suffocated… no one has had long term effects on their brain because of mask-wearing. This is called paranoia and discomfort. Remember you are only as good as your excuses so maybe try a little harder. Do some research before you start believing what someone else posted or before posting things yourself.
If you feel you can not wear a mask due to medical issues please reach out to your doctor they will tell you if you are at risk of dying from wearing a mask.
The people that believe being told to wear a mask infringes on their legal rights. This is my favorite one, because it depicts this nation and what we have become so well. Yes, we are free. Yes, we can choose whatever path we want to choose. Yes, we the people can be, say, do, whatever we want with no limits! Wait that last one is wrong… we do have laws which are limits and amendments which are limits… but we the people are free.
Lately, I feel the infringe on my legal rights phrase has been used a lot in a lot of cases, some of which are valid, but mask-wearing not so much.
Here is the deal, the government infringes on your legal right to choose whether or not to wear a mask, but when you say this, you infringe on others’ legal rights to stay healthy, to keep their families and loved ones healthy during this time, and to keep the economy thriving.
To say being told to wear a mask infringes on your legal right is the most selfish thing one can say right now. That is why I said this depicts this nation and what we have become so well… Selfish. We have been walking around thinking we can say, do, and think selfish thought for far too long. This country was not built on one man doing his own thing, it was built by many coming together helping each other out. Doing what was needed to be done for this country to thrive. Listening to each other. Communicating with each other. Being there for each other no matter how big or how small.
Now for many of you, the thought of controlling this pandemic by wearing a mask is stupid. However, did you know you are not wearing a mask to keep yourself healthy? That the point of wearing the mask is not about YOU?
There are more asymptomatic people with COVID-19 then there are symptomatic people. Wearing a mask keeps each one of us from spreading the germs when we are out in public, at work, or even having a gathering at our homes.
Wearing a mask is about keeping Jimmy’s 3-year-old little girl with respiratory problems healthy and alive, it is about Mary who is a 29-year-old school teacher with an autoimmune disorder healthy and alive, it is about Doug a vibrate 9-year-old with asthma healthy and alive, it’s about Anna Mae who is just a week from her 89th birthday healthy and alive. Wearing a mask is not about you, it’s not about keeping the germs away from you, but about you helping keep your community healthy.
So if this is all a conspiracy theory, reach out to the ones heartbroken from losing a loved one and find the answers you seek. If you think a mask is going to kill you, reach out to a military Doctor, or a charity that does 3rd world country medial work and ask, “How many mask deaths they have had per year?” If you think your rights are being violated ask yourself are you violating other rights to a healthy life and are you willing to be the cause of someone’s pain and suffering or worse death?
Wearing a mask is an exceedingly small thing that we are turning into a big thing. I honestly believe there are far bigger fish to fry in this world then this issue. I also think our energy could be spent spreading more positive thoughts at this time then negative ones, but hey if bitching and finding excuses not to wear masks brings you joy who am I to judge.
